Knowledge Is One of the Most Valuable Tools You Can Carry.

Understanding your instrument is just as important as owning the right tools. Explore the resources below to learn how each tool is used, better understand your instrument, and care for it with greater confidence.

Fine-Tune Adjustments

Thoughtfully Curated Tools for Every Flutist

The Essential Care Kit brings together professional-quality tools and practical knowledge to help you better understand, care for, and respond to the everyday needs of your flute or piccolo. Whether you’re preparing for a performance, practicing at home, or teaching in the studio, these carefully selected tools can help you address common concerns, perform safe routine care, and better understand when professional service may be needed.

While no portable kit can replace a qualified repair technician, having the right tools—and knowing how to use them—can often help prevent small concerns from becoming larger ones, or even save a rehearsal or performance when unexpected issues arise.

Clean and Protect

Silver Polishing Cleaning Cloth

Removes fingerprints and tarnish while helping preserve the finish of silver-plated and silver instruments.

Key Oil

Lubricates pivot points and key mechanisms to reduce friction and eliminate unwanted mechanical noise. (Professional-quality Superslick® oil with a precision needle-tip applicator for accurate, controlled application.)

Pad Saver Cloth

Absorbs moisture from sticky pads without leaving residue.

Alcohol Wipes

Sanitize the lip plate of the headjoint and remove residue, oils, and excess key oil from metal surfaces and headjoint and footjoint tenons (the connecting end of the headjoint or body that fits into the adjoining section).

Double-Ended Duster Brush

Gently removes dust, lint, dirt, and debris from around key tubing, springs, pivot posts, and other hard-to-reach areas.

Pipe Cleaner

Cleans between keys and other narrow spaces and removes loose surface debris from pads and mechanisms.

Cotton Swabs

Cleans small, hard-to-reach areas around keys, mechanisms, and the embouchure hole (the opening on the headjoint where you direct the air stream).

Cork Grease

Lubricates cork joints, including piccolo headjoints and some flute, alto flute, and bass flute joints. Never apply to metal tenons (the connecting end of the headjoint or body that fits into the adjoining section).

Address Unexpected Issues

Mini Screwdriver / Spring Hook

Available for Flute & Piccolo
or Alto & Bass Flute

The screwdriver tightens or loosens adjustment screws, pivot screws, and other screws used to secure keys and regulate the key mechanism when unexpected issues occur. The spring hook re-hooks displaced springs and adjusts spring tension to restore proper key function.

Self-Adhesive Felt

Restores proper contact at key arm-to-body touch points and eliminates unwanted metal-to-metal contact.

Pencil

Marks copper tape or self-adhesive felt before cutting to create a more precise fit.

Plastic Tweezers

Safely handle felt, copper tape, corks, and other small repair materials without scratching the instrument

Scissors

Cuts copper tape, self-adhesive felt, and other repair materials to desired size.

Copper Tape

Provides a temporary solution for loose tenon fits and can also be used as a precision shim for certain mechanical adjustments.
